Close look to electrical engineering and physics

13th European Researchers’ Night was organized  on September 27, 2019.

Visitors could experience themselves:

– What magnetic levitation means in practice – a phenomenon that is used in fastest rail transport, where Maglev trains move on a magnetic field cushion. We show how the superconducting object levitates above the magnetic tracks and we explained what the superconductivity is and why we need to cool-down our “train” with liquid nitrogen.

– How to use an ordinary pencil to prepare the thinnest material in the world – graphene, known for its extraordinary properties, such as excellent electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties. We prepared monolayers from graphene on a special substrate and also draw a functional electrical circuit.

– How to prepare a semiconductor device with micrometer dimensions and test how a transistor works in practice.

– We demonstrated unusual effects of well known physical laws, such as the effect of hidden friction, the model of electricity conduction or the effects of electromagnetic induction.
