Institute seminar

Dear colleagues,

let me invite you to the next institute seminar tomorrow Thursday 6 June 2026 at 10:00 in Meeting room 101. This week presentation will be done by:

Dr. Tomáš Kujovič
REBCO Superconductors – mechanical limits

Abstract:

Advancements in several scientific and industrial fields require higher power and more compact devices while minimizing losses, especially under alternating current (AC) operation. Rare-Earth Barium Copper Oxide (REBCO) superconductors are a promising candidate, however a standardised conductor with high technological readiness level (TRL) from this material is still under development. One of the key limitations is the mechanical limit of REBCO superconductors under cyclic mechanical loading. In my talk, I will give a brief introduction to the REBCO superconductors and their potential applications. The main part of the talk will be on how to investigate these mechanical properties, and I will explain the impact of the mechanical loading on the electrical properties. Afterwards, I will present results from previous years and discuss plans for the near future.

We look forward to seeing you.
