On October 28, 2025, the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (IEE SAS) welcomed a distinguished delegation from Lithuania, led by Ms. Wang Hsueh-Hong, Head of the Taiwan Representative Office in Lithuania. Among the guests were prominent representatives of the Lithuanian academic community – Dr. Aidas Matijosius, Dean of the Faculty of Physics at Vilnius University; Dr. Arturas Medeisis, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University; Dr. Mindaugas Zilys, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Kaunas University of Technology; and Dr. Ramunas Skaudzius, Director of the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology.
The main purpose of the visit was to share experience in implementing the bilateral SK-TW project, carried out in collaboration between the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI, Taiwan), IEE SAS, and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (FEI STU). The meeting also provided an exceptional opportunity to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation between Slovakia and Lithuania in the field of advanced power electronic components.
During the discussions, representatives of IEE SAS informed the Lithuanian delegation about the establishing the cooperation, the implementation of the SK-TW project itself, and the subsequent steps related to the establishment of the Competence Center for Semiconductors and Back-end Technologies in Slovakia.
The joint project between IEE SAS, STU, and ITRI focuses on training new experts in the design, assembly, and testing of SiC-based power modules for electromobility, as well as on research into wide-bandgap semiconductors such as gallium nitride (GaN) and gallium oxide (Ga₂O₃) for the development of next-generation advanced power electronic components.
