Distinguished Visit from the Taipei Representative Office in Bratislava

On February 17, 2025, the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (IEE SAS) welcomed distinguished representatives from the Taipei Representative Office in Bratislava (TROB), led by Mr. Nan-Yang Lee. The visit aimed to exchange information and review the milestones of the ongoing bilateral SK-TW project, conducted in collaboration with Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the IEE SAS, and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU).
This visit was an exceptional opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Slovakia and Taiwan in the field of advanced power electronic components. During the visit, representatives of IEE SAS informed the TROB delegation about the progress of the second phase of the SK-TW project, highlighting the successful completion of laboratory reconstruction and the delivery of state-of-the-art equipment for reliability analysis of power modules for the automotive industry.
Project coordinator, Milan Ťapajna, stated: “All reconstruction work in the laboratories was completed, and during the 2nd phase, all laboratory equipment was delivered, with most of it already operational.”
The aim of the joint project between IEE SAS, STU and ITRI is to train new experts in the design, assembly and testing of SiC-based power modules for electromobility and research in the field of wide bandgap semiconductors (GaN, Ga2O3) for advanced power electronic devices. The strategic focus of the project is to boost the entire semiconductor ecosystem in Slovakia and contribute to the increase of the competitiveness of domestic companies in the transition of the automotive industry to the electromobility.
The visit also paved the way for further cooperation opportunities after the project’s completion, strengthening ties between Slovakia and Taiwan in research and innovation.
